Spanish- or Portuguese speaking intern for our international program
Do you want to work with global solidarity issues and use your skills and knowledge to raise the voices of marginalized groups fighting for environmental justice? We are currently looking for an intern working with our communictions team, translating materials and communicating about our international partners program.

About us:

Jordens Vänner is the Swedish branch of Friends of the Earth, the world’s largest democratic environmental organization with over two million members in 75 countries. Together, we challenge the current global economic model and work towards environmentally sustainable and socially just societies.

With support from SIDA through Forum CIV, we provide financial support to seven partner organizations working in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Mozambique. We are now looking for an intern who can serve as a liaison between our partners and communicators as well as supporting our international work more generally.

Our partners’ work include:

  • Preserving the Amazon rainforest.
  • Protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities’ right to land.
  • Facilitating local organization and transitioning to sustainable, just agricultural practices.
  • Extending legal assistance and protection to environmental and human rights defenders facing threats and oppression.
  • Advocacy work and international campaigns, public education initiatives, and working towards broader inclusion and engagement in the fight for climate justice.

We are looking for someone:

  • In the final stages of their education in a related field, eg. communication, environmental science, global studies, human rights or other related areas.
  • With strong collaborative skills and the capacity to independently drive processes.
  • Who is creative and likes to brainstorm ideas for new campaigns and ways to further strengthen our communication.
  • Who shares the values of Friends of the Earth and wants to work towards a sustainable transformation of society and a fair distribution of the Earth’s resources.

Since a significant part of the work involves translating materials, you need to be able to communicate in Spanish or Portuguese, as well as in Swedish and/or English.

Knowledge of environmental justice and indigenous peoples’ rights issues in the countries and regions where Friends of the Earth’s partners operate, as well as personal experiences with voluntary engagement or activism, is desirable but not a prerequisite.

Examples of internship tasks:

  • Acting as a link between our partners, program managers, and communicators.
  • Monitoring the regional areas where our partners operate and keeping track of our partners’ work.
  • Support our campaigns on corporate accountability and international solidarity.
  • Translating texts and other materials.
  • Participating in strategic work and campaign planning.

What we offer:

As an intern at Jordens Vänner, you become part of our small office team with two staff-members, our community of members and local groups as well as our international network with organizations across the world. You gain insight into working in the nonprofit sector with global and local environmental- and justice issues, and get the opportunity to use your skills to make a real difference.

Application:

The internship is located at Jordens Vänner’s office in Gothenburg and runs for 20 weeks full-time between September 2025 and January 2026.
